Finding just the right plant combination is much harder than you might think. Water, soil and other cultural requirements play a huge role. Knowing where a plant is found in nature helps immensely. Being able to identify and recreate plant communities will often lead to success in the garden!
I'm with you. Theses are great. I don't have the eye to spot things like this. Have to try harder. You know when you see a place where the total package takes your breath away? I don't have the vocabulary for how the landscape plays it's part. So you are helping me see.
ReplyDeleteThere is a modest house a few blocks away. Over the last year it has become a "vision" that always draws my eye. It's part landscape part house. Tomorrow I'm going to look at the plant mix.
These natural combinations certainly create a beautiful harmony for the observer. We have the Russian sage, it's such a versatile plant setting off the colours nearby. The grasses are my favourite they have so many different qualities, swaying in the breeze, glowing in the sunlight and looking beautiful with the frost - always there inspiring different moods.

ReplyDeleteJapanese Hakoni Grass and water sounds like a mixed drink. It's hard to find any plant that isn't complemented by Japanese Hakoni Grass.
